This is part of a four-week series on the Metabolic Quartet, the four things I check first in every Root Cause appointment. They tend to move together, so this month we’re taking them one at a time. First up: blood sugar.

Every woman’s blood sugar pattern looks a little different by the time she reaches me. It’s shaped by her gut health, her medical history, her nutrient status, and everything else going on in her life. For Carrie, it showed up through PCOS and insulin resistance she’d been carrying for years before we met.

We built a plan around her actual life, meals that worked for her family, because a plan nobody can stick to doesn’t help anyone.

I can't recommend Rebecca Hiscutt enough. She has helped me regulate my blood sugar and significantly improve my PCOS-related insulin resistance. Her approach to meal planning was realistic and tailored to my family, which made it so much easier to stick to.

What Carrie’s story shows is what’s possible when the plan fits the person holding it. Blood sugar and insulin resistance sit right at the centre of the Metabolic Quartet, the four things I look at with every client, because energy, mood, weight and sleep all trace back to how steady it is.

My interactive symptom map shows just how differently this can look from one woman to the next. Worth a look if you want to see where your own pattern might sit.

Metabolic health can always be improved, and as it improves, so does your experience of menopause.

If blood sugar is the pattern you recognise in your own life, a Root Cause appointment is where we start working out why, and what to do about it.

Next week: visceral fat, the second driver in the Metabolic Quartet, and what it reveals beyond the number on the scales.
