Root Cause Clinic — Portishead

Clinical nutrition at The Beacon Hub

You shouldn’t have to guess when it comes to your health.

I run the Root Cause Clinic at The Beacon Hub in Portishead. It is a 45-minute, one-to-one appointment with a PhD Registered Dietitian, including an InBody 270 body composition scan. You leave with a clear metabolic picture and a personalised plan you can act on the same day.

Whether you are navigating perimenopause, managing persistent fatigue, or trying to understand what your health markers are telling you, this clinic is here for the Portishead community.

I am Dr Rebecca Hiscutt PhD RD. I’ve spent my career translating complex nutrition science into life-changing health strategies. These clinics bring that expertise directly to you.

How the clinic works

Each session is high-impact and affordable because we strip away the post-session admin and focus entirely on you.

01 — Before your session

The clinical head-start

Once you book, I send you a health and lifestyle questionnaire. Your medical history and current diet come to me in advance so I can use every minute of your session productively.

02 — The InBody scan (15 seconds)

The metabolic picture

You stand on the InBody 270 barefoot and hold two handles for 15 seconds. It measures visceral fat level, skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, and metabolic rate — the data behind how you feel, made visible.

03 — The consultation (45 mins)

Joining the dots

I work through your scan results and clinical history together, connecting your metabolic picture to your symptoms. You can ask anything: supplements, specific concerns, how to fuel a demanding life. We build your plan together.

04 — What you leave with

Your personalised metabolic plan

You leave The Beacon Hub with a personalised metabolic action plan covering the specific nutrition, movement, and lifestyle changes most likely to shift your picture.

Included with every appointment

See exactly what you get: your body composition report

Each scan maps your muscle, visceral fat and metabolic engine score, visit by visit. The numbers power the advice: Dr Rebecca Hiscutt PhD reads them alongside your history and symptoms, so your plan is personalised to you.

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is the clinic?

The Beacon Hub, Portishead, North Somerset, BS20. It is a modern community venue in the town centre with parking nearby. The map above will help you find it.

How much does an appointment cost?

In-person appointments are £95 and include an InBody 270 body composition scan. Returning patients receive a 10% discount (£85 per appointment). Virtual appointments are £60. All bookings are made online.

What does the InBody scan involve?

The InBody 270 is a medical-grade body composition analyser. You stand on the device barefoot and hold two handles for approximately 15 seconds. It measures visceral fat level, skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, and estimated metabolic rate. No preparation is required. Dr Hiscutt PhD interprets the results with you during the consultation and uses them to build your plan.

Home body composition scales give you a single number. The InBody 270 measures arms, legs, and trunk separately using multiple frequencies simultaneously — the specificity that makes it clinically useful. Read more about what the scan measures and why it matters.

Can I book a virtual appointment instead?

Yes. Virtual Root Cause Clinic appointments (30 minutes, £60) are available for patients across the UK. The clinical approach is the same and you leave with a personalised action plan, though the InBody scan is only available in person.

How do I book?

All bookings are online only. Use the booking button on this page. After booking you will receive a health questionnaire so Dr Hiscutt PhD can prepare before your session.

How is this so affordable?

A standard private dietetic appointment typically costs £120 or more and does not include clinical body composition analysis. Dr Hiscutt PhD keeps the clinic as accessible as possible while including the InBody 270 scan as standard — because the data it provides makes the consultation significantly more targeted.

What does 45 minutes include?

The InBody scan takes approximately 15 seconds, leaving the full 45 minutes for one-to-one consultation. Because the scan results give Dr Hiscutt PhD a concrete metabolic starting point before the clinical conversation begins, the consultation time goes further than it otherwise would.

Can you help with migraines, headaches, and joint pain?

Yes. Migraines, recurrent headaches, and joint pain often have a nutritional or metabolic component, particularly during perimenopause. Dr Hiscutt PhD explores these through a root-cause lens, looking at blood sugar patterns, inflammation, hydration, and hormonal triggers rather than treating symptoms in isolation.

Can nutrition help with gut symptoms like bloating and IBS?

Yes. Bloating, IBS, and digestive discomfort are common reasons people come to the clinic. They often reflect changes in the gut microbiome, food sensitivities, or stress responses, all of which have nutritional levers. Dr Hiscutt PhD assesses gut symptoms as part of the overall clinical picture.

Can a dietitian help with brain fog?

Yes. Brain fog during perimenopause is often driven by blood sugar instability, nutrient deficiencies, sleep disruption, and hormonal shifts. All are addressable through diet and lifestyle. Dr Hiscutt PhD uses a metabolic lens to identify what is driving cognitive symptoms and gives you practical steps to address them.
